Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is cash-based physical therapy?
Cash-based physical therapy is identical to traditional physical therapy, but you pay directly for services instead of your physical therapist billing insurance.
Spend more time with your physical therapist and less time with support staff.
Carroll Physiotherapy guarantees skilled one-on-one treatment with a licensed physical therapist every session—no double-booking, ever.
Treatment dictated by you and your PT, not your insurance company.
Insurance companies often limit treatment to only the referred body part, restricting your therapist's options. With self-pay, your therapist can provide any clinically appropriate treatment—whether you're dealing with a migraine today or knee pain next week.
Get evaluated when you need it.
Arizona is a direct-access state, meaning most clients don't need a physician referral for physical therapy. As healthcare providers, physical therapists are qualified to evaluate musculoskeletal conditions and refer to other providers when needed.
Save time and get out of pain faster.
Some insurance companies require physician authorization before covering therapy services. This gatekeeping can delay your treatment by days or weeks while you wait for a primary care appointment just to get a PT referral.
What if I want to use my insurance?
While cash-based physical therapy bypasses insurance for direct payment, you may be eligible for reimbursement for some services. Consider these questions:
What type of insurance plan do I have?
Some plans like HMOs require you to stay in-network, while others like PPOs may cover out-of-network care. Check your insurance card for your plan type.
What are my Out of Network benefits?
If you would like to see if your insurance policy covers Out of Network services, please call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask "What are my benefits for Out of Network self-pay physical therapy?"
What is a Superbill?
If your insurance covers out-of-network services, Carroll Physiotherapy will provide a Superbill—a detailed document of your treatment—for you to submit for reimbursement.
Will my therapist submit my claim for me?
To focus entirely on patient care, Carroll Physiotherapy does not handle insurance claims. Clients are responsible for seeking reimbursement for all pre-paid services.
How many visits will I need?
Treatment length varies for each patient—there's no one-size-fits-all approach. With our focused one-on-one care from a Doctor of Physical Therapy, many patients achieve results with just one visit per week. Your therapist can provide thorough manual treatment, detailed exercise guidance, and comprehensive care that isn't possible in busy clinics where therapists juggle multiple patients.
